The Northern Democratic Front has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of one Garus Gololo over a viral video in which he made allegations against the President of the Senate and used what the group described as vulgar language against the nation’s number three citizen.
In a petition dated and addressed to the IGP at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the group said the video currently circulating on social media contained “false and defamatory allegations” capable of inciting public disorder and breaching public peace.
According to the petition signed by the group’s National President, Engr. Musa Abba, Gololo claimed in the video that the President of the Senate told Northerners they must vote for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections or be forced to leave Nigeria. The Northern Democratic Front described the claim as “completely false,” stating that the Senate President never made such a remark at any time.
“This act constitutes the deliberate spread of false information capable of inciting public disorder and breaching the peace,” the petition read. The group argued that the statement was a calculated attempt to mislead the public and deepen regional divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The petition also condemned Gololo’s use of offensive language in the same video, saying it showed “total disregard for the high office he occupies.” The group insisted that such conduct was criminal, disrespectful, and unbecoming of any citizen in a democratic society.
The Northern Democratic Front further accused Gololo of a pattern of attacking President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress under the guise of opposition politics, alleging that his actions were aimed at pleasing unnamed sponsors. “This pattern of behaviour by Garus Gololo… must not be allowed to continue. The law must take its course,” the group stated.
The petition outlined three demands for the police: the immediate arrest of Garus Gololo, a thorough investigation into the source of his allegations, and his prosecution for criminal defamation, spreading false information, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
Copies of the petition were sent to the President of the Senate, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Director of the Department of State Services, and the Commissioner of Police of the relevant state command.
The group urged the Inspector General to treat the matter with urgency, noting that unchecked dissemination of false claims against public officials undermines democratic discourse and national stability.
As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official response to the petition, and efforts to reach Garus Gololo for comment were unsuccessful.
