Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Tuesday, May 24, sacked the State Executive Council. This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Kelvin Ebiri, the governor’s Special Assistant on Media,in Port-Harcourt.

According  to the statement, the governor also sacked Mr Emeka Woke, his Chief of Staff, and Mr Harold Koko, his Senior Special Assistant, Protocol.

All the affected officials were ordered to handover to the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

No reason was given for the action, but the statement said the governor commended the commissioners and other officials affected for their services and contributions to the development of the state.

Wike wished them the best in their future endeavours.

Though the statement was mum on reason for the abrupt dissolution of cabinet but Rivers State Government House sources linked the sack to a surprise birthday party put together by his cabinet members for Wike’s wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Wike whose birthday was May 24.  Some of the cabinet members had already arrived at Government House to wish her a happy birthday when they were ordered back.

The Governor was said to have been very miffed with his Chief of Staff and Senior Special Assistant, Protocol hence they were affected in the sudden sack.
