The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has directed an investigation into senior civil servants who granted illegal approvals allowing car dealerships to operate in designated green areas across Abuja.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, announced that the FCT Head of Service, Nancy Nathan, has summoned the affected officials.
Those called in include the Directors of Parks and Recreation, Environmental Protection, Traffic Management, and Urban Affairs.
Alongside the probe, Minister Wike ordered an immediate halt to using parks, gardens, and green spaces, including Millennium Park, as car dealership lots.
A specialised Task Force has been established to enforce the ban and monitor compliance.
According to Olayinka, these measures are part of a broader FCT Administration initiative to mitigate flooding in the capital city.
The directive follows Wike’s order on Tuesday calling for the demolition of all illegal structures and houses built on waterways, as well as instructions to the Director of Facility Maintenance and Management and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board to clear and de-silt drainages across major roadways.
