West Ham United have sacked manager Mauel Pellegrini after the club fell to a 2-1 Premier League defeat at home to Leicester City.

Chairman David Sullivan told the club website: ‘It is with great disappointment that we’ve had to make the decision. Manuel is a gentleman and it has been a real pleasure to work with someone of his calibre.

‘However, it has become clear that a change is required to get the club back on track in line with our ambitions this season.

Manuel Pellegrini played 57 matches, won 20, drawn 11 and lost 26. He had 73 goals for and 87 goals against his name.

‘We felt it was necessary to act now in order to to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal.’

David Moyes is expected to return to the London Stadium on an 18-month deal.
