President Buhari welcomes Emefiele

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele at the State House in Abuja.

Details of their discussion were sketchy but Aso Rock insiders said President Buhari is solidly behind the CBN Governor who has faced a barrage of persecution and harassment from some quarters in recent weeks.

Emefiele who was out of the country for his annual leave was making his first public outing since he returned to the country from his annual vacation. He has been facing investigations on allegations of corruption and terrorism financing.

On another front, his accusers also insinuated that he was part of an alleged heist involving stamp duty paid over the years.

Emefiele was part of a delegation of the Arab Bank for Economic Development led by its Director General, Dr Sidi Ould Tah to Aso Rock.

President Buhari received him saying, “You are welcome back” in obvious assurance that there was nothing to fear by the CBN Governor.

Emefiele left State House without any interaction with journalists despite their efforts to extract words from him..
