Kogi-state owned Confluence University of Science and Technology, (CUSTECH), Osara has expelled two students for engaging in gay acts and suspended four others for one academic session over fighting on campus.

This is contained in separate letters addressed to the affected students and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Academics, Eli Gbadafu, on Saturday.

The institution said the disciplinary actions followed recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee and were ratified at the 31st regular meeting of the university’s Senate.

According to the institution, the sanctions were imposed in line with the provisions of the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition, as amended in 2025.

The two expelled students were: Onumoko Hamza, Biology Education Department; and Abdulazeez Eneji, Mining Engineering Department.

Both were found guilty of gay practice after investigation by the disciplinary committee.

The four suspended included: Favor Akowe of Microbiology, Simbiat Babamuharuna of Biology; Zainab Omayoza and Sukura Bukola, both of Biochemistry Department.

They were sanctioned for involvement in a fight on campus.

The university said the measures were part of efforts to uphold discipline and protect the academic environment.

The management reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, order, and a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The university vowed to take decisive action against any student found to have violated its rules.

CUSTECH further urged all students to familiarise themselves with the Students’ Handbook and to conduct themselves in accordance with the institution’s regulations. (NAN)
