Two drivers jailed 6 years each for violating traffic rules

A Jimeta Upper Area Court in Yola, on Monday sentenced two drivers, Bello Shehu and Ahmed Sagir to Six years imprisonment  each for violating traffic rules at the central metropolis of the state.

The convicts, Shehu, 26 and Rabiu, 24, a tricycle rider of Jambutu Yola, pleaded guilty to inconsiderable driving, obstruction of traffic rules on public road, wrong parking, driving without vehicle particulars and drivers licence.

The presiding Judge, Abubakar Balaraba, held that he convicted and sentenced the two,  based on their plea of guilt to the offense.

“Having considered the plea of the convicts,

” I hereby sentence you, Bello Shehu, tricycle rider to six months imprisonment or pay a fine of N10,000 on each of the four offenses, which makes it two years or a fine of N40,000.

“Also that you, Ahmed Sagir, a vehicle driver is sentenced to one year imprisonment or pay a fine of N20,000 on each of the four offenses, which makes it, four years in imprisonment or to pay N80,000 fine.

”This judgement is under section 41 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 2015 as amended, adding that the convicts are given 30days right of appeal “Balaraba said.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor Insp. Abraham Zirba, told the court that on May 5, at about 1:45 p.m., a team of patrol attached to central motor traffic division, lead by CSP. Zubairu Buba, arrested the suspects.

Zirba said the defendant’s, Bello Shehu who drove a vehicle with plate number ARD 514 XA and Ahmed Sagir , who rode a tricycle with plate number JMT 127 AA violated the traffic rules.

The police prosecutor said the defendants drove carelessly without due consideration on public road, traffic obstruction through wrong parking and driving without vehicle particulars and licence.

He added that the offence contravene the provisions of section 41, 29, 161 and 7(1) of the traffic regulation act 2015, as amended .(NAN)
