Troops on duty
Nigerian troops have rescued the abducted traditional ruler of Igbesi Kingdom in Kwara State and neutralised several terrorists during coordinated nationwide operations conducted between August 27 and 28.
The clearance operations carried out across Kwara, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Plateau, and Benue states resulted in the destruction of multiple terror enclaves, the recovery of heavy weaponry, and the frustration of planned attacks.
Details of the operations were disclosed in an official military report released on Saturday in Abuja.
Monarch Rescued in Kwara
Troops of Operation Savanna Shield, acting in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force, forest guards, and local hunters, rescued the monarch alongside two women in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The combined forces raided a designated terrorist hideout, neutralised one bandit during a gun duel, and safely evacuated the rescued victims to a hospital for medical attention.
Ambush Neutralised in the North-West
In the North-West theatre, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma intercepted a large group of armed terrorists migrating from Zamfara into Sokoto State.
While en route, troops encountered an ambush at a bridge linking Rabah and Maikujera villages. The force fought through the kill zone with superior firepower, killing two terrorists while recovering two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles.
Additional operations across the region yielded significant tactical gains:
Katsina: Troops of the 17 Brigade, supported by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team and air assets, targeted the enclaves of notorious terror leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani across Matazu and Musawa LGAs.
The offensive destroyed key logistics structures, recovering an RPG-7 launcher, mobile phones, and motorcycles.
Troops also responded to a retaliatory strike in Danakwabo village, Kankara LGA, following the death of a local terror leader.
Sokoto: Ground forces foiled planned coordinated attacks around Sifawa and Danchadi in Bodinga LGA, forcing the assailants to retreat into dense forest cover.
Zamfara: Engineers with the 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base Gwashi identified and safely detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the Gurusu-Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum LGA.
North-Central Interventions
In the North-Central zone, operations focused on farm security, anti-banditry, and anti-rustling mandates:
Plateau: Troops of Operation Enduring Peace recovered five rustled cattle in Bokkos LGA, returning them to their owner. In Pankshin LGA, three suspects were taken into custody following an attack on local livestock.
Benue: Operation Whirl Stroke personnel, alongside the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, raided a criminal hideout in Ahungwa, Katsina-Ala LGA. One terrorist was neutralised, and AK-47 ammunition was recovered.
Military authorities emphasized that offensive operations remain ongoing to track fleeing insurgents, dismantle remaining criminal networks, and restore permanent stability to affected rural communities.
