Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 119 civilians, recovered eight vehicles, and foiled multiple security threats across Borno, Abuja, Plateau, and Benue states in a series of coordinated operations.
The military confirmed the achievements in an operational report released on Saturday.
In Borno State, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion intercepted a terrorist abduction attempt after spotting the insurgents via surveillance cameras monitoring the Dutsen Kura-Bulazarma-Kamuya road.
Upon sighting the terrorists abducting civilians and seizing vehicles, troops mobilized through Mangari-Dora in Biu Local Government Area and confronted the attackers. The heavy firepower forced the terrorists to abandon their victims and flee in disarray.
All 119 abducted civilians were safely rescued and reunited with their families, while eight vehicles were recovered from the scene. Additionally, troops located and safely detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the Bam-Buratai Junction-Bulazarma general area.
In a related development in Borno, a suspected fighter from the Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) faction surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion at Ngurusoye Village in Bama Local Government Area.
The suspect reportedly fled his enclave in Bula Daloye due to mounting hardship and violent clashes with the rival Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). He surrendered an FN rifle along with seven rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
Informant Arrested: On November 5, troops alongside members of the Hybrid Force arrested a suspected terrorist informant and collaborator in Ngamdu Town.
At approximately 4:05 a.m. on Saturday, troops of the Army Headquarters Garrison responded to an attack at Kurudu Phase Five in Abuja, where assailants attempted to kidnap a retired senior military officer and his son.
The swift intervention of troops forced the attackers to flee, though the victims sustained knife injuries to their shoulders and heads. Both individuals were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The military’s operational reach extended to key agricultural and rural communities in central Nigeria. In Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace apprehended two suspected burglars in the Doi Community, Jos South Local Government Area, while they were allegedly attempting to break into a local poultry facility. The suspects were handed over to the police for further investigation.
In Benue, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke arrested a herder at Umbago, Gwer West Local Government Area, following allegations of malicious crop destruction on farmland at Tse Tur. The suspect remains in military custody as investigations continue.
