Operational troops of Joint Task Force North-West (Operation FANSAN YAMMA) have killed a suspected terrorist and rescued six kidnapped victims during separate counter-insurgency operations across Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The operational successes were detailed in a statement released on Sunday in Gusau by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media and Information Officer for the Joint Task Force.
According to Danja, troops of Sector 2 acted on credible intelligence on Saturday, September 26, regarding a suspected terrorist hideout in the Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Upon storming the enclave, troops engaged an isolated combatant, neutralising him on the spot.
“During the operation, troops made contact with an isolated terrorist and neutralised him. Items recovered from the encounter include one AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a foreign military uniform, and various tools and clothing,” he said
In a concurrent operation on the same evening, Sector 2 troops responded to intelligence reports of an ongoing abduction in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Troops intercepted the criminal gang at the scene, engaging them in a heavy firefight that forced the attackers to abandon their captives and flee into surrounding bushland.
All six kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and taken to a secure facility to undergo medical assessment prior to reunification with their families.
“These successes underscore the resolve and professionalism of JTF NW OPFY troops in safeguarding lives and property across the North-West,” Danja said.
The military spokesperson urged members of the public to continue supporting security operations by providing timely and actionable intelligence regarding criminal and terrorist activities within their communities.
