Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled a planned terrorist attack on commuters in Katsina State, killing eight terrorists during an intelligence-led ambush in Bakori Local Government Area.

According to a military operational report made available on Thursday, said the operation was carried out by troops of 17 Brigade under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in collaboration with Hybrid Forces.

The report said the troops acted on credible intelligence that terrorists loyal to a notorious kingpin, Idi Abasu Aiki, were planning to attack commuters along the Kakumi–Guga Road.

It said the terrorists were moving towards the area on five motorcycles when troops laid a coordinated ambush along their route.

The report further revealed that terrorists unknowingly entered the ambush, triggering a fierce gun battle that ended with the neutralisation of eight of the criminals.

According to the report, troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles used by the terrorists during the operation.

It said the operation prevented what could have been a deadly attack on innocent commuters travelling along the road.

Military said the success underscored the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in degrading terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West.

According to the report, the collaboration between conventional troops and Hybrid Forces enhanced operational planning through better knowledge of the terrain and movement routes.

It said troops had commenced aggressive patrols and domination of the general area to forestall retaliatory attacks and deny the criminals freedom of movement.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at protecting lives, securing communities and restoring lasting peace across Katsina State and the wider North-West.
