An intelligence-driven military operation has successfully disrupted an illegal arms trafficking pipeline running across Plateau, Kaduna, and Niger states.

Troops of Sector 7, operating under Operation Enduring Peace, intercepted the shipment in the early hours of Monday, recovering seven firearms and arresting a wounded suspect.

The Nigerian Army disclosed the breakthrough in an operational report from Abuja, attributing the success to timely, credible intelligence regarding the movement of illicit weapons from Jos, Plateau State, destined for Niger State.

The Interception at Samaru Checkpoint

Acting on the intelligence, troops established a targeted stop-and-search operation in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

An ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz was intercepted at the Samaru Checkpoint. A thorough search of the vehicle exposed three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and four submachine guns (SMGs) hidden inside.

During the operation, a suspect attempted to flee the scene to evade arrest. Troops opened fire, neutralizing the escape attempt.

The injured suspect was immediately evacuated to the Sector 7 Medical Centre in Kafanchan, where he is currently receiving treatment under security watch.

Dismantling the Supply Chain

Preliminary investigations reveal that the intercepted firearms were supplied by two suspected arms dealers operating out of Jos.

The cache was on its way to an designated recipient in Niger State before troops cut the transit line short.

“The successful interception underscored the Nigerian Army’s resolve to disrupt arms proliferation and dismantle criminal networks threatening national security,” the military statement read.

The Army reiterated its commitment to working closely with sister security agencies and the public to deny criminals freedom of action.
