Tragedy as Fuel Fire Kills Four in Lagos

Admin April 6, 2016

To match Interview NIGERIA-BUHARI/The unprecedented fuel scarcity nationwide has begun to take a fatal toll as no fewer than four persons were burnt to death as overnight fire blazed through two houses in Somolu and Isolo areas of Lagos State.

At House 5 Adebiyi Street, Somolu, a late night fire reportedly  consumed a father and his two daughters. Neighbours who gathered to contain the fire could not do much before the inferno did damage to the family. Petrol stored in the house was cause of the inferno.

In another incident at 48 Oyedele Street, off Liasu Road, Egbe, fire roasted a grandfather after a lit candle stick fell.

Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe confirmed the two incidents. He described both incidents as tragic and appealed to Lagosians not to store fuel at home.

He said the fire outbreak in Somolu which claimed the lives of father and two children was caused by petrol stored in the home.

The fire service boss explained that the family was cooking close to where a keg of fuel was kept when an explosion occurred, igniting the fire.

He said the fire station from Somolu responded to the tragedy, but lamented that three dead bodies were recovered.

Fadipe said the fire outbreak at Isolo was caused by a candle stick which was lit by a grandchild for his grandfather. The candle reportedly fell while the child was away and started an inferno which killed the aged grandfather.
