An Area Court in Jos on Friday sentenced a trader, Sagir Isyaku, 21, to six months imprisonment for stealing a tricycle spare tyre from a police station.

The Judge, Mr. Daniel Damulak, convicted Isyaku after he pleaded guilty to theft but pleaded with the court for leniency.

Sentencing the convict, Damulak, gave him an option to either pay N 10,000 fine.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gowkat told the court that the case was reported at the ‘C’ Division Police station on July 4, by Ashen Stanley and Choji Fidelis who saw the accused person hiding with the stolen tyre.

The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation the convict confessed to stealing the tyre .

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 272 of the Plateau Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria. (NAN)
