Gov. Adeleke

Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday in Osogbo attacked the convoy of Governor Ademola Adeleke shortly after he left the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, whom he had gone to present his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
However, shortly leaving the palace, his convoy was attacked by gun-toting goons who had obviously laid an ambush opened fire at the governor’s convoy but his security details returned fire for fire thus causing a stir in the Osogbo neighbourhood.
Several gunshots were heard as both teams exchanged gunshots forcing the residents to run for safety.
Amateur videos showed a state of confusion with more gunshots fired by the governor’s security details who successfully repelled the attackers.
Preliminary reports said no casualties were recorded except a few persons who sustained minor injuries in the melee.
The governor had gone to the Ataoja’s palace after collecting the certificate, arriving at about 3:15 pm in a convoy of about 20 vehicles.
Witnesses said that trouble started shortly after Adeleke and his convoy left the palace. Gunshots were heard around the palace, prompting security personnel attached to the governor to return fire for fire.
The attackers were said to have arrived in an unregistered Sienna space bus through the Ita-Olokan axis and opened fire around the palace.
The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the governor’s security personnel successfully repelled the attackers.
“They are hoodlums, and the governor’s security repelled them. They attacked the governor’s convoy at Ataoja’s palace. No casualty,” Alimi said.
