Straw poll projects Eze Anaba to win as Nigerian Editors elect new Exco in Owerri

A straw poll conducted by Political Economist NG reporter among members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has projected Mr Eze Anaba, Editor of Vanguard newspaper, to emerge as the new President of the Guild.

Over 300 editors are currently in Owerri, Imo state capital for the Guild’s biennial convention during which the body of Nigerian editors would elect a new set of exco members to pilot the affairs of the apex association of editors in Nigeria.

Two editors, Anaba and Mr Bolaji Adebiyi, are contesting for the topmost position of President of the Guild.

However, in a straw poll conducted by our reporter covering the event, the odds seem to favour Anaba to win by a wide margin.

Those expected to be returned unopposed include Husseina Bangshika as Deputy President, Steve Nwosu as treasurer, Kabir Alabi Garba (Vice President West), Gabriel Akinadewo Folajimi (Assistant Secretary), Umoru Ibrahim (Vice President North), Muhammad Sanusi and Paulyn Owhievbie Ugbodaga (both Standing Committee North). Akinreti Qasim (General Secretary position) and Ademola Adegbamigbe (Standing Committee) were disqualified for improper documentation.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, are expected at the convention, according to the Planning Committee.
