The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 44 Anambra-based companies.
The certificates issued by the Anambra Office 1, Awka of the organisation, on Thursday, included approval for new products, recertification of products and some imported products.
Dr Ifeanyi Okeke, the Director-General of SON, in his address, said the event was a celebration of companies that had successfully passed the quality requirements and specification for producing quality products.
Okeke said certification of locally manufactured products ensured that manufactured products complied with standards and promote quality awareness in production of goods and services.
He added that it provides records for identification and traceability of products for domestic competitiveness and promotion of trade and investment at the international level.
Okeke, who was represented by Mr Chinedu Agafie, Director of Anambra Regional Office, commended manufacturers for their contributions to the Nigerian economy.
He, however, urged them to sustain good manufacturing practice and production of quality products and services to remain relevant.
Okeke said the Federal Government would continue to support manufacturers to boost employment, revenue and corporate social responsibility benefits.
“Congratulations as we present 44 companies with 107 products the prestigious MANCAP certificates and logos, we strongly advise you to comply with the conditions stipulated for your certification.
“As manufacturers in a very competitive business climate, we admonish you to sustain and improve on your activities of standardisation and quality assurance by imbibing the culture of quality which can guarantee profitability.
“Quality is critical to customers’ satisfaction which in turn ensures continuous patronage and resultant increase in services, output and profitability, if you do not deliver quality products, they will quickly look for alternatives.
Earlier in his address of welcome, Mr Emmanuel Husseni, the State Coordinator, Anambra State Office 1, commended the awardees for meeting the approval processes and qualifying for the certificates.
Husseni said SON had products for standardisation including calibration equipment which improve quality of products while urging the companies certified products to obtained the new logo.
Mrs Christiana Nwaele, the Managing Director of Sylflora Industries and Farms, commended SON for increasing the credibility of local products through regulation.
Nwaele, however, lamented the activities of industry players who were not within the regulatory space of SON.
