Contrary to the claim of Headquarters Guards Brigade that Mr. Abdulsamad Jamiu, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member was killed during a shootout with fleeing robbers in the early hours of 25 April 2026 at Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei, Abuja, the sister of the deceased has dismissed the claim as false.
In a voice note supported by videos of the incident including bullet marks on the door and blood stains on the floor, she narrated a chilling story of how she heard noise outside about 2am which made her to come downstairs only to see three armed soldiers in uniform right inside their home.
According to her, their parents travelled and the deceased had his room downstairs while she and others slept upstairs.
On getting downstairs and seeing soldiers flashing torchlight all over amid smell of gunshot, she asked them ‘Where is my brother’, a question the soldiers ignored while urging her not to shout or wake the neighbourhood.

She said there were other gunshot marks on the door and blood stains on the walls and on the floor of their house.
She said attempt by her to call their father was initially resisted by the soldiers until one of them showed empathy and allowed her to make the call to her daddy.
She said the call to her father was useful because their dad had to call neighbours who called the police and raise alarm that woke the neighourhood.
When the police arrived at the scene, she said the soldiers took the police away from the crowd to brief them. “I don’t know why they had to isolate the police from the rest of us and what they told the police,” she said as she narrated the gory tale under obvious pain and fright.
Political Economist NG reports that the Guards Brigade had said in an earlier statement that “the unfortunate incident occurred when troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group, on routine night patrol, responded to a distress call following an armed robbery attack in the area. Upon arrival, the troops came under gunfire from the fleeing armed robbers, resulting in a brief but intense exchange.
“In the course of the engagement, Mr. Jamiu was caught in the crossfire. Despite efforts by troops to secure the area and preserve lives, he sadly succumbed to his injuries. This heartbreaking loss has cast a deep shadow over all personnel of the Guards Brigade.”
