Senator Bulkachuwa under attack over harassment of Nigerians in China

Senator Adamu Mohammed Bulkachuwa (APC, Bauchi North) has said that the Senate cannot act on the trending issue detailing the harassment of Nigerians in China because the matter captured in a viral video has not been officially reported to the Senate.

Bulkachuwa who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs practically short-sold the Senate when he appeared on Channels TV POLITICS TODAY with a display of ignorance of what the Senate ought to have done at a time like this.

Acting on the viral video, the House of Representatives has grilled the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria but the Senate has carried on as if the matter didn’t mean anything to them.

For his show of ignorance, Nigerians have tongue-lashed the senator describing him as unworthy of his office, incompetent and a bad representative of both his people of Bauchi North and the Senate.

“Senator Bulkachuwa’s performance on Channels TV Friday evening was a show of shame. As Chairman Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs he should be the person bringing the video to the notice of the senate leadership. He said he had seen the video on social media so why did he not verify from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs whether the video is genuine or not. Why wait until the matter is officially reported to the senate before you can act?

“By the way, who is he waiting for to report the matter to him or the senate officially? He has no reason to be in charge of the Committee on Foreign Affairs if he continues to show such ignorance,” fumed Joseph Osedumme, a lawyer.

Another respondent, Chidi Okoroji accused the senator of “unpardonable ignorance” in matters of diplomacy, adding that he ought to have quickly liaised with the Diaspora Commission or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which he oversights for details.

“It is the incompetence of people like him that make other nationals insult and harass Nigerians all around the world. This is the same attitude displayed by the Nigerians government when South Africans were harassing Nigerians in South Africa until Nigerians revolted in Nigeria in a balance of terror. It shows the caliber of people we have in positions of authority”.
