Senate passes bill to repeal, reenact NIMC Act

Admin March 26, 2025
Senate passes Finance Bill

Senators in session

March 26, 2025

A legislative framework that seeks to make compulsory registration of citizens has been passed at the Senate.

The bill seeks the repeal and reenactment of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, to ensure the provision of a harmonious identity system in Nigeria that is cost effective and in compliance with best global practices.

The bill when assented to would foster inclusion and close gaps with regards to inaccuracies in the current data base.

The bill makes provision for establishment of a data base and a commission that would register and issue Identity cards to citizens.
