Russia 2018: S/Eagles will do Africa proud, says Akpokabayen

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South Africa chapter, Ekos Akpokabayen, says the Super Eagles will do Africa proud in the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Nigeria is in group D with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg, South Africa on Wednesday that the Eagles were blessed with young and talented players capable of facing any team.

He said football analysts and experts who followed the Eagles qualifying matches and international friendlies were optimistic that they could overcome any opposition.

“ With the crop of young players we have and the level which most of them are playing, they are hungry. With the history of the Super Eagles, I have no doubt they will do well.

“ I think the Super Eagles will make the continent proud in the 2018 World Cup,” he said.

According to him, the young players in the team are wearing the jerseys for the first time and they will not want to disappoint those who wore it before.

“ The players are determined to do Nigeria and Africa proud and I see them doing it.

“The coaches have been doing the right thing and we urge them to continue and remain focused.”

Akpokabayen said that there was nothing to fear in group D because Nigeria had played Argentina in the past and was now more prepared to face them again.

“ To me, the most important thing is to take each game as it comes. The team has come of age and I believe they will make it from their group.”
