Pollution: LASG seals Yabatech sewage treatment facility

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed the dysfunctional Sewage / Wastewater Treatment Facility of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) for illegally discharging raw sewage into the environment.

According to the State government in a statement on Friday, this was causing public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangering the lives of citizens of the State.

The exercise was carried out after several letters of warning to the institution to desist from the deplorable act which pollutes the environment and exposes the citizens to communicable diseases.

The General Manager of the Agency Engr Adefemi Afolabi remarked that the State has zero tolerance for Environmental pollution and degradation, imploring residents and institutions in the State to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability.

The Agency, according to Engr. Afolabi, remained undeterred in its efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment in the State, for the sake of the general public and the health of all residents of the State.

The General Manager maintained that every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and prosecution.

He, therefore, appealed to citizens of the State to continue to reach out to the agency whenever they see any act of environmental nuisance that can affect the health and well-being of residents of Lagos State.

Engr. Afolabi said the agency can always be reached on its official line 08022022397, 07025332163 or through any of its Social Media handles: Instagram, Twiter:@lswmomedia, and the Lagos state wastewater management office on Facebook.
