The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major operational breakthroughs across multiple states, recovering a massive shipment of illicit drugs at Apapa Port, rescuing six kidnapped victims unhurt, and repelling a terrorist assault in the North East.
The operational successes, detailed in an executive summary released by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, outline tactical interventions executed across Lagos, Oyo, Plateau, Borno, Delta, Bauchi, and Kogi states.
In Lagos State, police operatives collaborating with sister security agencies uncovered 267 kilograms of suspected Canadian Cannabis Indica during a joint examination of a 40-foot container at the Apapa Port.
The illicit substance, packaged into 275 individual sachets, was concealed inside four chest deep freezers. The exhibits have been secured, with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti leading the ongoing investigation.
Joint security forces scored key victories against kidnapping networks across the country:
Oyo State: Operatives combing the dense bushes around Idi-Ayure, Ibadan, rescued three staff members of a local company unhurt following a four-person abduction. In a separate operation along the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road, police rescued another kidnapped victim during an intensive bush-combing exercise.
Plateau State: Police operatives safely rescued the wife of a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and one other individual after they were abducted from their residence in Gura-Topp, Rayfield, Jos South LGA. Both victims were debriefed and reunited with their families.
Kogi State: An abducted victim, identified as Umar Ibrahim, successfully escaped his captors and was brought to the police station by relatives. He received medical attention while security forces launched further search operations in surrounding bushes to locate the fleeing bandits.
Terrorist Attack Foiled in Borno
In the North East, combined security forces successfully repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists in the Zakari Area of Nganzai Local Government Area, Borno State. The quick response stabilized the area, restored public calm, and reinforced security perimeters.
Cultists Nabbed, Firearms Recovered
Targeted raids and intelligence-led stop-and-search operations yielded further arrests and illegal weapons recoveries:
Delta State: Acting on credible intelligence, police raided a cult meeting, arresting three suspects and recovering an automatic pump-action gun from an abandoned building where the group operated.
Bauchi State: Patrol teams intercepted a gang that had robbed two commercial motorcycle operators, capturing one suspect and retrieving two stolen motorcycles.
Oyo State: Officers on stop-and-search duty intercepted a Toyota Camry after the driver attempted to evade the checkpoint. One suspect was arrested, and search findings yielded a revolver toy gun, 31 toy cartridges (including 8 expended), suspected Indian hemp, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and stolen jewelry.
CSP Iniedu confirmed that all cases have been transferred to the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments (SCIDs) for detailed investigation and prosecution, reassuring the public of the Force’s continuous commitment to intelligence-led policing and community safety.
