Police neutralises suspected kidnapper, recover arms in Plateau

The Police Command in Plateau have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle in Gindri, Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Mr. Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Jos.

Alabo said that some Police detectives attached to Gindiri Division were attacked on Wednesday while trailing some criminal elements at Changal community of the area.

He further disclosed that the armed gang was led by a notorious suspect, Ibrahim Abdullahi, known for terrorising communities in Gindiri and environs.

“Our team engaged the armed criminals in a gun duel and one of the suspect was neutralised.

“Exhibit recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle loaded with 16 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and a Redmi phone.

“The case has since been transferred to the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation.

“Upon conclusion, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution,” he sad.

Alabo said that Mr. Bassey Ewah, the Commissioner of Police in the state, commended the act of bravery and professionalism demonstrated by the gallant operatives.

He said that Ewah assured residents of the state of its commitment to rid off all criminal elements from the state.

He further said that the commissioner, however, urged members of the public to support the security agencies with timely and useful information towards the success of ongoing operations against crime and criminality in the state.
