The Police Command in Katsina State has foiled a bandit attack in Musawa Local Government Area (LGA), neutralising one suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said this in a statement on Saturday in Katsina.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the attack occurred on July 29 at about 5 p.m., when suspected armed bandits invaded Sabon Gulbi Village in Musawa LGA.

He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Musawa Division, led a joint tactical team of police operatives and personnel of the Katsina Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to the village following a distress call.

According to him, the team engaged the attackers in a gun duel, successfully repelled the attack and neutralised one suspected bandit, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

He said security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine containing five rounds of live ammunition and an operational motorcycle from the scene.

Sadiq-Aliyu said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage,  commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism and effective collaboration during the operation.

The commissioner also lauded members of the public for providing timely intelligence and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
