Police nabs man with counterfeit U.S Dollars in Gombe

The Police Command in Gombe State says it has arrested a 35-year-old man for criminal conspiracy and possession of counterfeit U.S Dollars.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer said this in a statement in Gombe on Wednesday.

Abdullahi said that the suspect was arrested on Saturday at about 2:04 p.m., by its personnel attached to Lawanti Airport Division who were on surveillance.

According to him, our officers on Saturday while on surveillance arrested and brought to the Amada Police Station a 35-year old man who is an indigene of Kuji Kwadon Village, Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area of the state.

“The suspect was found in possession of suspected counterfeit United States dollar notes, which he attempted to use to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that he was in possession of 10 pieces of 100 dollar notes suspected to be fake.

“When converted to Naira in the current exchange rate, the amount is equivalent to N1,500,000.

“He also had N10,000 in Nigerian currency; all were concealed inside his inner short trousers and recovered as exhibits.”

The command’s image maker added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime but alleged that the counterfeit currency was given to him to trade by his accomplice.

Abdullahi said that efforts were on to apprehend the said accomplice and to recover more exhibits, adding that investigation was still in progress.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents of the state.
