The Police Command in Ondo State says it has apprehended two suspects over conspiracy and attempted child stealing in Ogbagi-Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government.

The Spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen on Wednesday in Akure.

Jimoh said that the suspects were apprehended on March 22 following a report from a resident, Mrs. Olanireti.

The prosecutor said that Olanireti reported that she sent her three-year-old son to meet his grandmother who lived behind her shop.

He further said that shortly after the child left, a member of the public raised an alarm concerning a suspicious activity involving a child.

Jimoh said that the suspects were blocked following the gallantry of the child’s grandmother and some daring residents of the area.

“Personnel of the command arrived at the scene swiftly and successfully rescued the child without any hurt,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the case had been transferred to the state force headquarters for ‘discreet and thorough investigation’

He said that the command was committed to uncovering the full circumstances and possible wider criminal network surrounding the incident.

“The command will ensure that anyone found culpable in the matter is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, had commended the bravery, vigilance, and prompt response of the community members in preventing the crime.

He said that the effort of the residents underscored the importance of police-community synergy in the campaign against crime.

The prosecutor urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant, and ensure effective monitoring of their children’s movements.
