Men of the Nigeria Police Monday morning repelled unknown gunmen who attempted to attack the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) office headquarters along Port Harcourt road, Owerri.

Witnesses recounted the horror of gunshots shattering the peace of the ambience as security men on duty repelled the invading hoodlums.

A witness said that shortly after the first round of gunshots ostensibly from both the attackers and the police, a detachment of reinforcement was mobilised from the police headquarters.

Political Economist NG recalls that a series of attacks had been visited on INEC offices in Imo State this year, with two recent attacks in Orlu and Oru local government area.
