The Enugu State Police Command says it has a wanted armed robbery suspect in its custody, following a successful operation by its personnel.

The command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu and made available to newsmen on Friday.

Ndukwe added that the command also recovered a stolen vehicle, motorcycle, hard drugs, phones and other exhibits from different operations in Enugu.

He ascribed the feat to the efforts of the operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

He stated, “In separate intelligence-led operations, the VCRU operatives caught and detained a wanted armed robbery suspect and recovered the incriminating exhibits.”

Ndukwe explained that on May 6, at about 7am, the operatives, while on crime prevention patrol and acting on credible intelligence, stormed the Nkwubor axis of Emene, near Enugu.

He added that on reaching the area, a suspected drug peddler, popularly called “Doc”, fled on sighting the operatives, abandoning his shop and a red Mate 90 ladies’ motorcycle.

He further stated that in another operation on April 30, at about 10:30am, the operatives caught and detained a 34-year-old man (name withheld), at Amagu-Ugwu Road, Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu.

He explained that the suspect had been on a police wanted list over an alleged armed robbery case.

Ndukwe stated, “The suspect, a commercial mini-bus driver operating within the Garki axis, confessed to the crime.

“The suspect led operatives to a mechanic workshop, where a stolen white Toyota Hiace Bus, with the inscription of “Morning Flight Nigeria Limited”, and Registration Number NSK 643 ZY, was recovered while being vandalised.”

He added that investigations into the cases had begun, adding that the command had intensified efforts to catch the fleeing suspects and their accomplices.

Ndukwe noted that the detained suspects would be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.

The statement disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for the successes recorded.

Giwa was quoted to have reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the police with credible and actionable information.
