The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has detained one suspected kidnapper in Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lafia.

He said it was a significant breakthrough in the command’s sustained efforts to combat criminality across the state.

The PPRO said that the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 38 Akwanga Unit Command received a report about the suspect on Friday, March 20, at approximately 5:00 p.m.

He said that the credible intelligence indicated that a suspected kidnapper was sighted in possession of a firearm within the area.

“Acting swiftly on the information, a team of Mobile Police operatives was immediately deployed to the scene and they successfully apprehended the 32-year-old male suspect.

“The suspect is from Rugan Hassan in Adudu Community of Awe Local Government Area of the state.

“Upon arrest, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one AK-49 rifle along with four rounds of live 7.56mm ammunition,” he said.

Nansel noted that the suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.

He said that the police would continue the investigation to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

The PPRO, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing operations in combating the state of criminal elements.
