The Police Command in Yobe says it has concluded an arrangement to demolish a high-velocity projectile in Damaturu on Wednesday.

The command’s spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the controlled demolition of the bomb would be handled by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Police Unit.

According to him, the exercise will be conducted at a distance away from the command’s headquarters on Gashua Road by 1pm.

Abdulkarim, therefore, called on the general public not to panic as the exercise would be safe and posed no risk to the people.

The spokesman said that the explosive device, which was earlier discovered around Potiskum Road, might have been abandoned by metal scrap dealers.

“Recall that on June 22, 2025, an explosive device exploded at a scrap collection company in Kano, claiming 15 lives.

“We, therefore, urge scrap dealers, especially those operating in conflict areas, to avoid collecting or buying unidentified or unique metal objects.

“Report suspicious objects to the nearest police station or security formation for verification”, he said.

Abdulkarim said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ado, had warned that anyone found collecting, purchasing, or selling explosive devices would be arrested for endangering lives and property.
