Five persons on Tuesday were arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged illegal possession of firearms.

Seun Oyebanji, Ige Dada, Ajibade Simeon, Rasaki Adedipe and Anichukwu James are facing a two-count charge of possession of firearm and breach of peace.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed to the offences on June 8 in Aramoko-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that the police during a routine patrol caught the defendants with unlicensed firearms.

He also said that James conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 47 and 181 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defence counsel, Mr. Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant his clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Adeosun adjourned the case until July 31 for mention. (NAN)
