January 30, 2018

A Kano High Court sitting on Tuesday presided over by the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Nura Sagir, has fixed Feb. 2, to deliver its judgement on the civil suit filed by People Democratic Party against Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).
According to the Defense Counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Maicidi, brought a preliminary objection, challenging the jurisdiction of the court claiming that the court lacks the right to entertain the case.

Meanwhile, the Counsel to the Plaintiff, Barrister Abdullahi Adamu Fagge representing PDP, urged the court to consider the expedient of the time and combine both the preliminary objection and the main suit for effective Judgement.
Fagge said the plaintiff applicant are demanding an interpretation whether the amount fixed for the nomination forms Chairmanship and councillorship had contradicted the law governing the electoral commission claiming that it’s extensive.
He, therefore urged the court to extend beyond Feb. 10, the time for the election in order for their candidates to be fully prepared.

NAN recalled that the state chapter of the PDP had on Jan 4, filed the suit challenging KANSIEC to stop the local government election scheduled for Feb. 10.

The party is also challenging the commission to reduce the N250,000 and N150, 000 charges for nomination forms for the Chairmanship and councillorship respectively.
