PDP is dead, no longer a formidable opposition – Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Kalu, representing Abia North, has described his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as dead, saying it is no longer counted as a formidable opposition.

He said no amount of coalition would defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 because even within the coalition, there are divisions.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia state,  who was guest on Politics Today, on Channels Television on Monday night, said he had assessed the current federal cabinet, adding that there are ministers who should go because they are not giving their best in tandem with the demands of their office and vision of the Tinubu government.

He urged President Tinubu to relieve such ministers including security chiefs of their duties. He bemoaned the insecurity across the nation and wondered why the nation’s security agencies cannot dismantle the insurgents, bandits and other criminals ravaging the nation.

“Some people working with President Tinubu should be relieved of their duties. Some of them should go — both from the security sector and among the ministers,” he said.

He said the President should take “bold decisions” in order to realign his administration with the expectations of Nigerians.

“President Tinubu must be courageous enough to sack some of these ministers. If he takes my advice — most of these ministers, I’ve appraised them and talked to him privately — most of them should go, and that is the truth.

“If he takes my advice, some of the security chiefs will also go. There is no sentiment about redeeming Nigeria if we really want to relieve Nigeria,” he said.

On the current state of the economy, Kalu acknowledged the President’s reform efforts but noted that the impact had yet to reach the majority of Nigerians, He conjectured that it will take the next two or so years for the common Nigerians to begin to feel the comfort of the reforms.
