The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo has said that the bodies of two children in a bus that plunged into Ovia River, were yet to be recovered six days after the accident.

Mr Cyril Mathew, Sector Commander. Edo FRSC, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin on Tuesday.

A commercial bus traveling from Lagos to Port Harcourt on Sept. 12, veered off the highway and plunged into the river.

Six persons were rescued alive, two bodies recovered immediately from the river while the other passengers were trapped in the bus.

Providing an update, the FRSC boss said a total of five bodies had so far been recovered from the river.

“The ones that have not been found are the bodies of two children: a boy and a girl. One is five years old and the other is seven years old.

“The parents of the children were part of the accident but they survived.

“The driver of the bus was found on Sunday and the family buried him at the bank of the river. Another body that was also found was buried in similar manner.

“The bodies had floated to a nearby village and were discovered by fishermen who were part of the rescue mission when the accident happened,” Mathew said.

He added that the body of a lady was discovered inside the bus when the bus was removed from the river, adding that the children were yet to be found. (NAN)
