The Police Command in Ondo State says it has arrested a man, Amos Paul, of Unaun, Upenme in Owo Local Government Area, for allegedly brutalising his 10-year-old daughter.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the command, made this known in a statement on Friday in Akure.

The command’s spokesperson said that the suspect allegedly used a heated laundry iron to burn the private part of his daughter for bedwetting.

Jimoh, who said that the incident was reported to the Police on Thursday, disclosed that the victim sustained severe injuries and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, for medical treatment.

“Upon receipt of the information, detectives from ‘A’ Division, Owo, swiftly mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect and took him into custody.

“The case is being transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action in line with established procedures,” he said.

He urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other related offences to the nearest police station.

Jimoh assured that the command would continue to ensure that offenders were brought to justice.

He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from all forms of abuse, violence and exploitation.
