Okowa Rallies Support for Buhari in Fight Against Corruption

Admin September 10, 2015

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State

Okowa OFFICIAL PORTRAITDelta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has charged labour unions to collaborate with government in the fight against corruption in order to have enough resources for the development of the nation, stressing that the fight against corruption is for everyone.

The Governor gave the charge while addressing members of the Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC] and Trade Union Congress, TUC, Delta State Chapter who besieged the Government House Asaba, on a peaceful Anti-corruption and Good Governance Rally.

He urged them to partner with government at all levels in the fight against corruption so as to stamp out the menace “so that we will be able to free more money that will be available to develop our state for the good of all”.

Senator Okowa commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the campaign against corruption and called on all leaders to live by example so as to achieve the desired success and make Nigeria a better nation.

“Mr. President has spoken and we are expecting that he is going to lead by example and I know that he will, the NLC and TUC Presidents have also spoken and I know that they are going to lead by example and as individuals we have to remain conscious and vigilant as well”, he said.

He commended the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress for leading the rally and urged them to leave out the practice in their lives and offices.

His words “We all know that corruption has eaten deep into our society and it has come into the consciousness of every Nigerian that we must change for the better and that is why I congratulate the NLC and TUC for leading this crusade and this crusade is for us all, nobody is exempted from it”

Earlier, in a welcome address, Chairman of the delta state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade David Ofonyeno, said the rally was a directive from the National Body for organised labour to hold a peaceful rally against corruption and draw the attention of the political authority to the damage corruption has done to the country.

He commended the government of Senator Okowa for its transparency saying ” we are happy for the audience granted us, we are not here to rally against the state government because we know the government of Delta State is not corrupt”.
