Ogun renovates Alake Sports Centre ahead NMA Games

Admin February 21, 2018

February 21, 2018

Ogun Government says it renovated the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, for the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Games, tagged “Abeokuta 2018’’ which began on Wednesday.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Afolabi Afuape, inspected the renovation of the centre on Wednesday in the company of his Works and Infrastructure counterpart, Olamilekan Adegbite.

Afuape said the renovation was captured in the 2018 budget, adding that the Muda Lawal Stadium, Abeokuta, Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu would also be renovated.

Also, the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, would also be renovated before the tenure of the administration ends, he said.

The commissioner said the work covered every department of the centre, including badminton and basketball courts, judo, squash and others.

He said sports equipment and kits needed would also be procured by the state government.

“As you know, Ogun is ever ready when it comes to sports. I also want to assure you that the renovation will cover every department in the centre and the needed sports equipments and kits will be procured by the government,’’ Afuape said.

He said the upgrading and procurement of sports equipments would not only boost the morale of the athletes but would also encourage the youth to take interest in games.

Contributing, Adegbite said there was the needs for the two ministries to work together as the Games were fast approaching, adding that the renovation would meet the required standard.

He contended that the renovation when completed would change the outlook of the centre, assuring residents that works would be completed before the commencement of the Games.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that NMA Games holding from Feb. 21 to Feb. 25, will feature basketball, football, badminton, squash, chess and table tennis.
