The Police Command in Ogun State has arrested a 43-year-old man, over the alleged killing of his neighbour, Michael Eje, 38, in Mowe.
According to the command’s spokesman DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirming the arrest in a statement on Friday, the suspect, who was earlier reported to be at large, was arrested in connection with the death of Eje and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
He explained that the incident occurred after Eje allegedly hugged and played with the suspect’s three-year-old child.
“The suspect was said to have become angry, accusing Eje of engaging in rough play with the child. He allegedly picked up a bamboo stick and repeatedly hit Eje, who collapsed and died. The suspect immediately went into hiding with his family,” the command’s spokesman said.
Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim is however ongoing.
