Okada riders in Lagos

There was mayhem in a part of Lagos Monday morning as scores of hoodlums, some suspected to be Okada riders (motorcyclists), attacked a police station in Ipaja area of Lagos State.

Reports linked the incident to the police raid on motorcycle riders in the area in an enforcement exercise.

The incident triggered exchange of gunshots but policemen promptly repelled the hoodlums. No fatality was reported but police said they are investigating the matter.

Police spokesman in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident as he praised officers and men of the Ipaja Division  for being professional and warding off the attackers.

Normalcy has since been restored in the area as several police detachments have been drafted to the flashpoint.
