The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has commenced one week Information Communication  (ICT) training for 50 physically-challenged persons in the North East

Speaking in Gombe on Wednesday at a ceremony to kick-start the training, Director-General of the agency, Dr Ali Pantami, represented by Dr Femi Adeluyi, said the exercise would last one week.

He said participants were drawn from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states.

“The 50 participants undergoing the training cover the three main clusters of people living with disabilities; the blind, deaf and the crippled.

“Each of the participants is going to be given brand new laptop customized to their need, with specific software that they can use,” he said.

According to him, the programme was in line with President Muhammadu
Buhari’s plan to develop the capacity of Nigerians and sure social inclusion.

“The programme is aimed at giving the people living with disabilities sense of belonging.

“We want them to be equipped with ICT knowledge, have access to ICT
and also be self reliant,” he said.

He therefore advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facilities  that would be given to them at the end of the programme.

Alhaji Ali Gora, North East Zonal Coordinator of Physically Challenge Persons, commended NITDA for carrying his members along.

He said the training would have positive impact on the lives of  members, and also gave the assurance that the facilities would be utilized for the purpose intended.

Goro advised the Agency to organize such programme at the Local Government level for more people to benefit
