NIS plans database cleanup, certificates revalidation

The Director-General (D-G), National Institute of Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has said that the institute is currently cleaning up its database to revalidate all certificates.

Shaibu made the disclosure on Friday in Calabar at the sidelines of the ongoing 2nd National Council on Sports meeting.

The theme of the meeting is: “Business of Sports: Creating Jobs, Wealth and Utility under the Renewed Hope Agenda”

The NIS D-G said that the move aimed to bring the institute up to speed with global standards, and ensure that its certificates were accepted globally.

“We are cleaning up our database. So from the second quarter of 2026, anybody that passed through NIS will come for revalidation.

“Every revalidated certificate will be in our data bank, meaning that any name not found in our storage did not pass through the institute,” he said.

He further said that the curriculum of the institute had been overhauled to inculcate courses such as diving, scouting, sports physiotherapy, among others.

Shaibu said that NIS was re-enacting its core duties such as monitoring players and athletes to check their performance metabolism and nutrition, saying:”the essence is to bring out the best in them”(NAN)
