Nigeria’s John Boyega to Produce South African Crime Thriller ‘God Is Good’

Nigerian Hollywood actor, John Boyega is kick starting the  year with the production of  a South African crime-thriller ‘God Is Good.’

According to Hollywood Reporter, Boyega is the Executive Producer of the thriller, which is likened to ‘Prisoners’ and ‘City Of God.’

It is written and directed  by Willem Grobler and is being produced by Josephine Rose through her new banner, Bandit Country.

The ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ star is also launching a record label, Upper Room Records, which will handle the film’s soundtrack.

Hollywood Reporter explained that the crime-thriller will follow a gangster-turned-pastor and a volatile detective who crossed paths.

“Set in the Cape Flats, God Is Good follows act of brutal violence which sets them on  collision course with a heinous gang lieutenant who will stop at nothing to get to the top.”

Boyega said, “I’m thrilled to be teaming once again with Josephine Rose on such a powerful and important story that explores themes of fathers and fatherhood.”

“Willem has written a superb screenplay and we are looking forward to working with him to realize the vision behind it.”

Born on March 17, 1992 in Peckham, South London by Nigerian parents, Boyega came to limelight  in the UK for his role as Moses in the 2011 sci-fi comedy film, ‘Attack the Block.’

He is known for playing Finn in the 2015 film ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and its 2017 sequel ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.

In 2016, Boyega formed his own production company, Upper room Entertainment Limited and co-produced the Pacific Rim Uprising in 2018, also starring as the film’s lead, Jake Pentecost.

During a Nigerian tour in April, Boyega revealed that he was ready to invest about 25 million dollars into shooting a low-budget Nollywood movie.

According to him, it is a chance for him to develop these stories, merge Hollywood with Nollywood, to bring the genuine and most important stories to light. (NAN)
