Nigerians blast IGP Idris over bloopers in doctored video

Nigerians across various divides have come hard on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over his bloopers as he struggled to read a prepared speech at a police event in Kano State. The video of the embarrassing episode, which looked slightly doctored, had been trending on social media.

Voice of Liberty TV Kano shared the video where IGP was speaking at the inauguration of the police intelligence unit in Kano on Monday.

The IGP repeatedly struggled to pronounce words like transmission, transition, among others in his prepared speech. The intervention of one of the officials on duty at the programme to guide him did little to help the IGP who rattled along with more bloopers as he struggled to hold down the speech against the wind. The audience stayed stunned while the embarrassing moment lasted.

But the video may have been doctored given the sequence of repetitions.

The video has got Nigerians swiping at the IGP. Some alleged incompetence while a lot more called for his sack.

Fredrick Nwabufo wrote on his Facebook wall: “Have you watched the video of Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, blundering deliriously through a prepared speech?

The IGP cannot read. He cannot read. IGP Idris is what happens when employment and promotion in the civil service is determined by the capricious quota system.

IGP Idris is what happens when key positions in government are outsourced to mass of vacuity on the basis of loyalty. Nigeria cannot work with the quality of people in the civil and public service. It is an assured tragedy”.

Many others alleged this was why he has been avoiding the Senate.

However, evidence of the video being doctored was premised on the fact that the IGP had been speaking off the cuff in public before including reading prepared speeches and on no account did he fumble through his speech as was depicted in the trending video.
