Troops on duty
Troops of the Nigerian Military have rescued 24 kidnapped victims, arrested seven suspected terrorist collaborators and informants, and repelled multiple armed attacks during joint security operations across the North-East and North-West regions.
The successes were detailed in an operational report released on Tuesday, outlining counter-insurgency and anti-banditry actions conducted between Monday and Tuesday under Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Fansan Yamma.
Crackdown on Informants and Logistics in the North-East
In the North-East, troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai arrested six suspected terrorist collaborators and one logistics informant across Borno and Yobe States.
Three suspected collaborators were intercepted along the Damaturu-Maiduguri road, while three others were apprehended at Makintakururi in Kaga Local Government Area, Borno State.
Additionally, troops arrested an ISWAP informant loitering around Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area.
In Gubio, Borno State, another suspect was detained after confessing to supplying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to terrorist enclaves around Binduldul. Items recovered during the operations included mobile phones, cash, and a vehicle, with investigations ongoing.
The report also noted that a female family member of a terrorist, accompanied by her infant, surrendered to troops at Ngurusoye in Bama Local Government Area.
Mass Hostage Rescues and Counter-Attacks in the North-West
In the North-West, troops under Operation Fansan Yamma executed several rescue and offensive missions across Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Zamfara States.
A total of 23 hostages were freed in Sokoto State alone, including six victims rescued at Sabon Gari in Wurno Local Government Area and 17 civilians intercepted along the Isa-Kwanar Isa-Shinkafi road in Isa Local Government Area. One victim who suffered a leg fracture was evacuated to Isa General Hospital for medical care.
In Kebbi State, troops engaged terrorists around the Mia Inuwa and Udochie areas of Danko Wasagu Local Government Area, rescuing one kidnapped victim who was subsequently handed over to local authorities for medical treatment and family reunion.
Troops also successfully repelled armed attacks on military positions at Zango in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State, and in Maiyama, Kebbi State. In Kebbe, Sokoto State, troops launched an offensive along the Asrara road after spotting terrorist movements, forcing the assailants to retreat into the forest.
In Illela Local Government Area, Sokoto State, troops recovered six rustled cows and arrested four suspects at Kalmalo village. Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, military forces restored calm to Damri village in Bakura Local Government Area following violent clashes between farmers and local settlers.
Joint search operations involving military personnel and local vigilantes remain ongoing around Taguwa Hill in Rabah Local Government Area, Sokoto State, to locate several farmers reported missing following a terrorist attack on local farmland.
