Nigerian Editors to Raise N850m for Secretariat

Admin March 5, 2014

femi adesinaThe Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, the apex body of media practitioners in the country, will on Thursday, April 10, 2014 host a fund raising dinner at the prestigious Transcorp Hotel, Abuja to raise N850 million for its secretariat complex to be known as ‘Editors Plaza’. The eight-storey ultra-modern edifice is to house offices and other modern facilities.

In a statement, the NGE said politicians, captains of industry, professionals and lovers of the media are billed to attend. Describing the dinner as long overdue, the President of the Guild who is also the Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the present executive will deliver the project to the Guild before the expiration of his tenure. He enjoined all well-meaning Nigerians to partner with the Guild on this project.

Contributing, the Chairman of the Organising Committee and Vice President (North) of the Guild, Suleiman Uba Gaya, said the details of the event would be unfolded shortly.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit making organization, for the highest strata of journalists who have attained the exalted position of editors in the journalism profession. Since its inception, the Guild is yet to own a befitting secretariat.  It has over the years operated from make-shift offices. According to Adesina, he and his executive are determined to buck this trend by bequeathing a fitting secretariat to the Guild which will not only serve as a functional office for the Guild but will also be equipped with modern ICT facilities and meeting rooms for the purpose of building the capacities of Nigerian editors.
