Troops of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 4 of Operation DELTA SAFE, have successfully intercepted a vehicle loaded with 1,200 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) along the Onna–Etinan Road in Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Brigade, Lawal Muhammad on Tuesday, the successful operation took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, during a routine anti-illegal oil bunkering patrol.
Acting on intelligence regarding suspicious activity, troops flagged down an Infiniti SUV bearing registration number EPE 937 EY.
Upon sighting the military patrol, the driver attempted to evade arrest before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into the surrounding bush. A thorough search of the vehicle yielded 40 concealed nylon bags filled with suspected illegally refined AGO, carrying an estimated market value of N2,256,000.
The recovered vehicle and petroleum products have been secured in accordance with Operation DELTA SAFE operational mandates. Search efforts for the fleeing suspect remain ongoing.
