A recently established first private University in Sokoto State, Northwest University Sokoto (NWUS) on Saturday matriculated no fewer than 200 students in the state.

Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of the state, who attended the maiden ceremony pledged that his administration has proposed to sponsor 85 indigent students to various courses at the university.

Aliyu said his administration would redeem its pledge of making education a top priority among his designed nine-point agenda for the state.

“Our commitment to education will remain resolute, as such I appeal to our people to support our administration in achieving the task.

“For the NWUS Founder, our leader Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, we will continue to appreciate your sustained commitment of ensuring our youth have brighter future,” he said.

The governor reminded the matriculating students that their swearing in to the university was just the beginning.

“You should remain resolute and dedicate your stay at the university toward achieving your desired goal,” he added.

In his address, the founder Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North) said the vision that drove the establishment of NWUS was his fervent desire to build an institution which can serve as a hub of knowledge.

“This is where robust research is carried out, and cutting-edge innovations are made.

“Our goal is to create an environment where excellence thrive, where knowledge is not only gained but nurtured.

“An environment where success is measured not just by grades but by the positive impact individuals have in their community,” he said.

Wamakko, a former Governor of the state added that the university’s motto “Knowledge, Excellence and Success” encapsulated the core values underpin in its vision.

“We believe knowledge is the key to unlocking human potential and through it we strive to empower our students to become agents of positive change in the society,” he said.

He assured that the students of his commitment to provide them exceptional educational experience that foster knowledge, excellence and achievement.

The lawmaker encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity to embrace the values of the institution and strive for excellence in all they do.

He lauded the state governor for his passion and dedication to education, while appreciating the Vice-Chancellor and his team for putting the institution on the pedestal of rapid growth in a short period.

Earlier, Prof. Ahmed Ibrahim, NWUS Vice-Chancellor, said the institution was a full pledged private University licensed by the National University Commission (NUC) in the year 2022.

He said that the university has three faculties; namely: Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Management and Social Science, with 15 Departments. (NAN)
