The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced the identification of two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the country’s North-East region.
In a statement issued via its official social media handle on Saturday, the agency confirmed that both individuals have been placed in isolation while comprehensive laboratory tests are being conducted to verify their health status.
The NCDC stressed that classifying the individuals as “suspected cases” does not mean they have tested positive for the virus.
“Confirmation will depend on the results of laboratory tests, with further information expected as investigations progress,” the agency stated.
Following the identification of the suspected cases, public health authorities have swiftly initiated contact identification and listing protocols to map out individuals who may have been exposed. This is part of heightened surveillance measures to prevent any potential community spread.
The health agency has urged members of the public to remain calm while maintaining vigilance. Citizens are advised to practice proper hand hygiene, adopt enhanced sanitation measures, and strictly follow safety directives issued by public health authorities.
The NCDC assured that further verified updates will be communicated to the public as soon as laboratory results and ongoing investigations yield definitive information.
