The Federal High Court has declared the unilateral Amendment of the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) for Lawyers by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, illegal, null and void.

The minister had on his own volition and decision amended the RPC and this created a furore among members of the NBA, prompting the body of lawyers to seek legal redress and interpretation of the minister’s action.

In the suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, against the Attorney General of Federation [AGF] and marked FHC/ABJ/CS/77/2, the court on Wednesday ruled that the General Council of the Bar has many members and an amendment of the RPC cannot be by one single individual, no matter how powerful.
